Key Responsibilities

  • coaches, trains and instructs swimmers by analysing performances and developing abilities
  • plans and directs strategies, develops play patterns and analyses game progress
  • motivates swimmers and supervises practice sessions
  • recruits swimmers and other coaching staff/instructors
  • arranges entries into swim competitions
  • promotes sports and skills development as well as overseeing the participation of young people in swimming
  • officiates at sporting events to enforce rules and regulations, liaising with other officials when necessary
  • co-ordinates and directs swimming activities.

Education, Training and Pathways Pathways

  • Informal or on-the-job
  • A coaching or swimming instruction course accredited by Austswim, Swim Australia or Royal Life Saving Society Queensland (RLSSQ) is usually needed to work as a Swimming Coach or Instructor.
